Top 5 Mistakes People Make when Quad Biking

A quad biking activity underway

Quad Biking offers thrilling off-road adventures, but common mistakes can quickly turn excitement into accidents. Here’s a top five list to keep you safe.

At Avalanche Adventure we will teach you everything you need to know to get the most out of these amazing machines! (and more importantly, finish the session in one piece…)

1. Not leaning into corners hinders your ability to maintain balance and control. Unlike motorcycles, quad bikes require leaning to counter centrifugal force.

2. Standing up when unnecessary shifts your centre of gravity, making the quad unstable on uneven terrain. This technique is for rough, slow sections, not general riding.

3. Going too fast into corners is a recipe for disaster. Quad bikes are less agile than motorcycles, and excessive speed makes turning difficult. The best way is to slow down before you get to the corner, turn in, then accelerate to power out of it.

4. Not leaving enough space to brake is critical. Quad bikes have longer stopping distances than cars, especially on loose surfaces. Always allow ample room to stop.

5. Overconfidence without the ability to match it leads to reckless behaviour. Many beginners overestimate their skills, resulting in preventable accidents. Respect the machine and terrain, and progress gradually. Mastering these points ensures a safer and more enjoyable quad biking experience.
